What do you really want?

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

There has been quite a lot of development here at steverydz.com lately.I’ve constantly been tweaking the design and I’ve worked very hard on the content.

Now I only have two pages left to finish and they are the most important pages too.  So, my question is what do you want from my music page and mp3 page?

I know the obvious answer is music, but I would like to know of any features that you would like to see.  My initial idea is to have all music available to listen to on the music page with links to lyrics and other details.

I want to use the mp3 page to provide download links for the music available and any different options that there may be.

Maybe it would be better to have both pages as one, but I’m trying to avoid too much clutter in any one place.  Anyway, you’re the user, what do you think?

In synch…

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Are you tired of synching all of your music files accross multiple devices?  I know I am.  I buy a CD so I can listen to music on my stereo.  I then rip it to my PC so I can listen while I work.  I may then add the music to my phone or mp3 player so I can listen whilst I’m on the move.

This is actually quite time consuming, and there are also issues with memory and storage.  What if there was another way?  Maybe there is, but I don’t know it.

I do have an idea though, one that makes me wish I was a software developer.  Imagine that your music is stored on your PC/Mac, all in one place.  As long as you have a big enough hard drive you can have as much music as you like.  You have probably done this already.

So whats so great about this?  Well, what if you could somehow connect to all your stored music from other devices such as your mobile, mp3 player etc.  I know that ipods especially have a large memory these days but there is still the issue of transferring data.

Obviously this would be dependent on bandwidth etc but how amazing would it be to simply login to some account via your mobile device and have all of your music at your finger tips.  I can’t count the number of times that I’ve regretted not putting a certain album on my phone while I’m travelling somewhere.

Someone, somewhere, create this now, please…

A new relaxed approach…

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I know that I bang on and on about being a slow songwriter but I really have found the relaxed approach to be far more rewarding.  As ironic as it seems I find myself writing something almost every day now.  Ok, I’m not writing great songs everyday but I am creating.

The way I see it is the more I write the more great songs I’ll write and the better I’ll become as a songwriter.

You might wonder how this qualifies as the relaxed approach?  Well, the answer is that I’m not trying to write songs, I’m not forcing myself.  If I come up with a couple of lines and then can’t go on I simply put the guitar down and do something else instead of throwing it against a wall of something.

This way I enjoy making music which is crucial.  I spend enough hours at the dayjob being unhappy about what I’m doing so everything else has to be worth something.

I’m still not setting any deadlines for new music.  I would have like to have had another EP out by now at least but it just hasn’t happened that way.  I’m just going to wait until I get a few good songs that sti well with each other and then see what happens.

As long as I don’t stop things will be fine…

Start again…

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Well, I had a few problems with my site after I rebuilt it, notably that the comments were not working. I finally got it fixed, the one downside to that is that I lost all my past blog posts.

Ok, in the grand scheme of things its not the end of the world, but you know how it is when you put so much time into something and then it goes wrong. Apparently the problem was caused by an error in my MySQL database?? and when I tried to repair it I lost everything and had to reinstall wordpress.

Anyway, I’m sure that you’re not that interested in that side of my website?

I hope you like the new look though, and the features that I’m constantly working on. It’s a theme that I’ve touched upon before but this time everything is working as it should, this is entirely my own theme too!

You can probably see in the sidebar that I have pretty much all my recent demos on the music player.  There are one or two lost songs out there somewhere but I’m more interested in writing nnew songs than trying to hunt down old ones.

Also, on the music page you can download the EP I released last year for free in either flac or mp3 format.

There are other features I would like to add to the site, and hopefully I will, but I really need to focus on writing, recording and playing live for the time being.

Of course I will keep my blog up to date and you can always follow me on Twitter,so you’ll always know what I’m up to.

This coming weekend I want to spend as much time as I can on music, primarily rehearsing but also some writing and recording too.  It’s about time I posted some new music.
